Here is what people say about Pavel and Reartix, recognizing the uncompromised commitment to fostering trust, human connection, and delivering global expertise.
Before Pavel joined the Vice-Presidency of Casting and Performance I was heading, he had already a very successful journey at Cirque du Soleil. Pavel is a very dedicated and responsible person. I appreciated his leadership as well as his human, financial management and constant search for higher efficiency and productivity of his division. In my experience his contribution surpassed the immediate function he was responsible for. Pavel has a wide range of capabilities. His capacity to learn, adapt, search for innovative solutions is remarkable. He has a very high level of critical analysis capability which makes him a very important partner in complex environement. During our working relationship I appreciated his autonomy and amongst many other qualities his loyalty and the fact that I could count on him if he was driving a project. Added to his technical skills and managerial competencies his artistic flair adds to what Pavel can bring in a team environment where “science and art” is at the core of the organization success. In my view Pavel brings a lot value to an organization especially if he is offered and supported to go beyond the boundary of his immediate function.
Pavel Kotov is a guiding landmark in the circus world, a true intellectual and professional beacon in his own way and position. A man who knows and understands the world and heart of performing arts, all over the world. A multicultural professional with a broad knowledge of languages and communication. A highly prepared and reliable man, known, respected and loved by the circus profession, from artists to managers, from circus directors to stage managers, from Paris to Montreal, from Shanghai to Budapest. He is a clear-eyed, reliable and always objective jury member, chairman of dozens of world competition juries, a great speaker at conferences, a skilled negotiator at the highest professional, diplomatic and cultural policy levels. His thoughts, words, statements and decisions are a point of reference and a guiding light all over the world. He is one of the Budapest International Circus Festival's foremost experts and jury members. Personally, I am honoured to know that I can turn to him for help on professional matters when needed.
I first met Pavel Kotov in 2004 when I was Artistic Director of Cirque du Soleil's production "O" at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino. At the time, he was in Las Vegas from Montreal, acting in his position as casting scout. I vividly recall his care, attention, professionalism and profound knowledge in the area circus arts. Little did I know then that we would work together as close partners and colleagues in the casting department under the vice-presidency of Casting & Performance of Cirque du Soleil for the next six years from 2008-2013 where Pavel became Director of Casting for all CdS touring shows, based in Montreal, and I became Director of Casting for all CdS resident shows, based in Las Vegas. I consider my partnership with Pavel to be one of the most valuable, fruitful and satisfying partnerships in my professional career. Along with another area of casting (CdS's new creations), Pavel and I were tasked to build our teams with the ultimate goal of identifying elite circus talent around the world and, then following, recommending the right artist to the right position at the right time. Casting elite, rare talent across the globe can be immensely challenging, especially when there are 20 shows requiring it, often simultaneously, and often urgently. What surfaces immediately is Pavel's extraordinary talent in listening intently to the needs and concerns of others - without any ego whatsoever. He displays a tremendous degree of empathy and critical thinking, which consistently resulted in him recommending his position with great articulation, calmly and convincingly. It is important to mention his recommendations were not only in line with 'his' needs; rather, he understood and advocated for the 'right' placement for a particular artist's unique profile and talents even if that recommendation was for a production outside his direct responsibility. Pavel was also a rockstar in strategic thinking during the time we worked together - I turned to him often to help me see the bigger picture which helped me grow in my own role. At the same time, Pavel is not only a thinker in the clouds: he is pragmatic, never afraid of fire, and can pivot quickly (brilliantly, I would add), when needed. What rises to the top is the immense sense of TRUST Pavel cultivates in his professional relationships - not only with our partnership but within a complex entertainment company of thousands of employees around the globe working under extremely high stakes. He looks you in the eye and speaks with sincerity and a backbone. After over 20 years of knowing Pavel and working alongside him, we remain strong friends. I mention this not to get in the way of a professional recommendation but to highlight that after 30 years working in the entertainment industry, one discovers there are few people with whom you can dance in the fire AND share laughter and good times. Pavel is one of those. I can't express enough superlatives.
I had the opportunity to meet Pavel Kotov several years ago at the Circus Festival of Italie in Latina. At the time, he was representing Cirque du Soleil as a member of the jury, and from the very first moment we met, I was struck by his passionate yet caring view of the world of circus arts. It wasn't long before we forged a bond that was not only professional, but also friendly. What sets Pavel apart in this very special world is that he's not just interested in artistic performance and the end result on stage. Of course, technical excellence and beauty of execution are paramount to him, but what moves and motivates him above all are the human relationships that are created in this environment. For him, the circus is a living art form, nourished by exchanges and collaborations, and above all by the deep bonds that unite artists, technicians and all professionals in the sector. As General Manager of the Centre International des Arts en Mouvements from 2017 to 2023, I had the chance to discuss and share many thoughts with Pavel. Over the years, we've exchanged views on the issues at stake in our profession, the challenges we face and the importance of preparing the circus of tomorrow. One of the topics that often came up in our discussions was the place of specialized technicians in the circus arts. We believe it's essential that their ongoing training should be able to evolve in harmony with the artists. What makes Pavel so valuable to our profession is his ability to steer the circus in the right direction, combining rigorous artistic standards with a profound sense of humanity. He understands that, to survive, our art must adapt to new technologies, new formats and the expectations of an ever-changing audience. It's not just an art, it's a way of living and working together, as a team, with respect for each other and a constant search for beauty. Pavel embodies this philosophy, which is why he is a key figure in the circus world. His commitment goes far beyond his official duties: he is a true ambassador of the circus spirit, a promoter of knowledge and a creator of links. In short, it's rare to find people like Pavel in our industry, people who understand both the technicality and the magic of the circus, and who, through their dedication, help this very special art to flourish. It's a privilege to be able to collaborate with him and share visions for a future where the circus continues to surprise, move and bring people together. Thanks to people like him, our profession is growing and enriching, while remaining true to its essential values.
Pavel is a magnificent advocate for the Circus Arts industry! I was so honored to advocate alongside with him at the #whitehouse. Thank you for the brilliant presence, support, and rich perspectives.
